Hi, my name is Audrey Chernoff and I work for HCR Group as a recruiter and account manager.
This blog will often be short and to the point, giving you tips on acing the interview, using social networks to help you market yourself and anything to do with careers and job hunting. We will have guest bloggers, so check here daily for updates. Feel free to sign up for our RSS feeds.
Here is today’s tip:
If you visit my linkedin profile, I am easy to find by name, you will see that I have done everything from working in advertising to licensed massage therapist. I am the original career changer. In this economic climate, many people are thinking of changing direction, going back to school and some are not sure what to do.
Years ago, I read a wonderful book that helped me decide what I really wanted to be when I grew up. It was “I Could Do Anything If Only I Knew What It Was” by Barbara Sher. All her books are great, including “It’s Only Too Late If You Don’t Start Now”. Barbara Sher actually wrote to me on twitter saying that is her favorite book, but that’s a story for another blog.
The book “I Could…” is one of the best self help and discovery books I have ever read. It reminded me how much I love to sing and I began singing and auditioning again after reading it. So feel free to comment here. Have you read and enjoyed any of Barbara Sher’s books? Have you read any other books that made an impact on what you do for a living? I would love to hear about them.

Your first blog is terrific.. The only thing; ( I’m a little neurotic sometimes, but it is a passing phase) The part saying, “Barbra Sheer wrote you on Twitter.” Most definitely mentioned That, “I Could” is her favorite; The part she wrote you makes me feel neurotic…
Hi, Heidi,
Thanks! Just to clarify, I mentioned on twitter, the title of Barbara Sher’s book, “It Is Only Too Late…” and Barbara wrote to me that was her favorite of all the books she has written. My favorite is the book “I Could Do…”
I work very closely with Audrey and can say that her professionalism and enthusiasm is evident in HCRs first blog. So if you’re looking for tips, seeking any sort of motivation or have any employment related questions, please visit our blog!
Nice blog. I’m not a big fan of Barbara Scher books, but I’m glad to hear that Audrey is well rounded.
Hi, Scott,
Thanks for commenting. Do you have a book or books that you do recommend for careers and business?
A book was recommended to me “Do what you love and the money will follow”. Once I lost my job, I jumped right into networking and research, never finished the book. I want to change my career and work in the artist community.
I lost my job due to downsizing, bad economy, blah, blah, blah. Anyway, I have found that people like to help. If you show you are serious, the person you are asking will mostly likely be happy to help. Networking is the best.
Thank you, Denise, for reading and commenting here. Enjoy the Visual Artists Group on Linkedin.
Thanks for the kind words, Audrey. Even better, thanks for this: “It reminded me how much I love to sing and I began singing and auditioning again after reading it.” That’s my favorite kind of message ever. Keeps me writing.
Thank you, so much. You made my day!
Hi Audrey,
You certainly hit a positive note with me on your blog. I also read Barbara Sher’s book, took her workshop and also participated/hosted one of her small groups led by assistant Andrea Reece (who, by the way is also a fb friend and fantastic person in her own right).
As a career coach and motivational speaker I have acquired and read dozens of “self-help” motivational books, tapes and CDs but Barbara’s book is on the top of my shelf!
I highly recommend everything Barbara offers!
Keep up the great work and enjoy blogging!
Renee
Thank you, Renee. I think this may become an addiction.
Terrific blog. I have not read Sher’s books, but I will check them out. I find as an artist, books that help keep me focused and motivated are key.
One interesting book I read that applies to marketing one’s work is “The Tipping Point” by Malcolm Gladwell.
I have read that! A few people on twitter gave me a list of books for marketing. Right now I am reading “The Big Idea” by Donny Deutsch. I just started, I will let you know if it is worth reading. He has a show on cable and I think youtube has a lot of videos from the show.
Thanks Nancy, for reading and commenting.
Look forward to following this blog. I left the mortgage banking world 8 years ago. I wanted to get back in touch with my artist soul and decided to open an art gallery. I also started painting again. Both pursuits have been fraught with challenges and new opportunities. I have found that there is no perfect job. Each road we choose to follow gives us joys and challenges. I am having the time of my life learning and growing. I am currently enjoying learning how to use social media to network, market and share my life with friends, new contacts and customers. Having tools like this blog can inspire, teach and reaffirm what we are seeking in our lives.
Thank you so much. How did you hear about us? Are you on twitter? I follow someone very interesting there who was in marketing and opened an art gallery in Toronto last year. You might want to check out, http://tinkutales.blogspot.com/ her blog and also her gallery.
Congrats on your first blog post. I’ll be back!
Wow, thank you. By the way, you have the cutest cats! I loved your vlog.

Thank you! And we are working on the bug to the RSS feeder.
Hello Audrey,
Already, I can see you will bring jobseekers a wealth of information as they will be able to connect with you. As a certified resume writer, I engage many confused, frustrated, and tired jobseekers. Often, the most debilitating part of the job hunt proces for them is deciding on what to do next and developing the courage to seek out what they most want! I will tell them to come here, to your blog, get sound advice and so you can point them in the right direction!
Congrats!
Thank you! Your blog and tweets are outstanding.
Big Tweets to YOU and your new blog!
I’m adding you to my blog roll and look forward to reading future posts
Best,
Heather
